NEW DELHI: A confrontation between a BJP leader and a group of young protesters has triggered a political row, with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav demanding the leader’s immediate arrest after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.In an X post shared by Yadav, it can be seen that the BJP leader first questioned the protesters about their religion and identity before confronting them over slogans and allegedly assaulting them.According to the video shared by him, the youths were asked whether they were Hindus or Muslims.The leader then questioned them over the slogans being raised during the NEET-UG protest and allegedly told them that they should be ashamed of themselves.

The situation escalated further when the leader allegedly threatened to beat one of the youths and subsequently hit him.The protesters were also allegedly asked to apologise.Sharing the incident with a message directed at protesters across the country, Yadav said the BJP and its allies should be held accountable for what he described as their alleged “misbehaviour, abusive words and violence”.Yadav alleged that the incident was particularly serious because it came only hours after assurances had been given to the protesting youth.He also questioned whether the alleged conduct was a result of differences within the BJP-led government, asking sarcastically if it was happening because of a “double-engine collision”.Yadav demanded the immediate arrest of the BJP leader.In a sharply worded post, the SP chief accused the BJP of betraying assurances given to the protesters and said the party could not be trusted to honour its word.The post came on a day when the CJP ended its 37-day Jantar Mantar agitation after the Centre accepted its key demands following a third round of talks with Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh.The Centre agreed to withdraw FIRs against protesters and provide compensation to families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide, while both sides agreed to work on a five-point charter for education and examination reforms.The development followed Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation as Union education minister on Saturday, amid mounting pressure over the NEET-UG controversy and the CJP-led protests.Pralhad Joshi was subsequently appointed as the new Union education minister
