Featuring Ananya Panday and Lakshya in the lead, the romantic drama unfolds inside an engineering college in Hyderabad and gradually transforms into an emotionally layered story about marriage, parenthood and healing. While the trailer promised an intense romance, the film goes beyond a conventional love story and explores how two people evolve through heartbreak and personal growth.
How does Aarav and Chandni’s love story begin?
The narrative follows Aarav Rawat, played by Lakshya, whose ordinary first day at engineering college changes after seeing Chandni Rawat, portrayed by Ananya Panday, perform a fusion dance on stage. Instantly fascinated by her, Aarav slowly starts expressing his feelings in subtle ways.Chandni notices his efforts and eventually takes the initiative by approaching him for help with academics. Their friendship quickly turns romantic, and before long, the two share their first kiss and begin a passionate relationship. What initially appears to be a carefree campus romance soon takes an unexpected turn.
Pregnancy changes everything
A major conflict enters their lives after Chandni becomes pregnant. Aarav believes they are too young to raise a child and encourages her to undergo an abortion so they can focus on their careers. However, Chandni changes her decision at the hospital and decides to keep the baby.Despite his hesitation, Aarav chooses to support her. The couple then informs their families about the pregnancy and their wish to get married, but both households reject the relationship. Their close friends eventually step in and help them tie the knot.
Marriage, parenthood and emotional distance
After marriage, Aarav and Chandni move into a modest home and prepare for parenthood. Aarav takes up a tutoring job to manage expenses, while Chandni gives birth to their daughter Kavya. Initially, the couple tries to share responsibilities equally, but sleepless nights, exhaustion and emotional stress begin affecting their bond. The relationship reaches a breaking point during an argument where Aarav angrily grabs Chandni’s face. The moment reminds Chandni of the toxic patterns she witnessed growing up, and she decides she does not want her daughter to inherit the same trauma. Choosing self-respect over emotional dependence, she leaves Aarav and later sends him divorce papers.
Why does Chandni refuse to reunite initially?
Even after separation, Chandni admits she still loves Aarav, but she cannot forgive the moment he turned physically aggressive. Aarav repeatedly attempts to repair the relationship, but Chandni stands firm. He is allowed to meet Kavya every weekend, and over time, those moments slowly soften Chandni’s feelings. Still, she chooses to move forward with her life and eventually gets engaged to Kevin, played by Paresh Pahuja.
‘Chand Mera Dil’ ending explained
Towards the climax, Aarav leaves for Michigan to continue his studies. Even from afar, he remains connected to Kavya through regular video calls. Two years later, he returns to Hyderabad to attend another college orientation event. Although Chandni initially claims she will not attend, she surprises Aarav with a dance performance that mirrors the moment they first met years ago. The emotional callback leaves Aarav overwhelmed with memories.Later, Aarav confesses that despite everything, he still loves her and wants another chance. Chandni then reveals that she ended her engagement with Kevin shortly after the ceremony because she could never truly move on from Aarav. Watching him bond with Kavya over video calls reminded her of the love they once shared. The film concludes on a hopeful note as Aarav and Chandni reunite, not as immature college students but as emotionally evolved individuals determined to co-parent Kavya while pursuing their own ambitions.Produced by Dharma Productions, ‘Chand Mera Dil’ attempts to present a realistic portrait of young love and marriage.
