Jaaved Jaaferi's wife Habiba Jaaferi allegedly duped of Rs 16.24 crore; BMC official suspended as probe intensifies

A major financial fraud case has brought actor Jaaved Jaaferi‘s family into public discussion after allegations surfaced involving his wife, Habiba Jaaferi. Authorities are currently investigating claims related to an alleged investment scam involving a large financial amount. Initial reports suggest that the alleged fraud involved investment promises associated with redevelopment activities.

BMC takes action against one of its officials

Reports from NDTV says that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has also initiated action connected to the matter. Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Patil from the K-North ward has reportedly been suspended following allegations linked to the case. The suspension order was recently issued and later served to the official. Authorities took the step after details from the complaint became part of the ongoing investigation. The matter has now expanded beyond preliminary questioning because of the seriousness of the allegations.

Complaint alleges promises of high returns

According to details emerging from the complaint, Habiba Jaaferi was allegedly convinced to invest in a redevelopment-related project located in Mumbai’s Bandra region. Investigators believe the investment opportunity was presented as a proposal capable of generating substantial returns and profits. Authorities are also examining allegations suggesting that fabricated and forged documents may have been used during the process. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at Khar Police Station and an investigation formally began. Officials are now reviewing records and information connected to the alleged transactions.

Crime Branch takes over the investigation

Reports from NDTV suggest that Mahesh Patil has remained untraceable after the registration of the case. Authorities have reportedly been attempting to determine his location while continuing their investigation. Police have also reportedly named five additional accused individuals in connection with the alleged cheating case. Because of the financial scale and seriousness of the allegations, the investigation has now been transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch. Crime Branch teams have intensified efforts and are currently conducting searches at several locations connected to the accused persons. Officials are reportedly attempting to gather more information and locate those linked to the case.
