Emma Heming clarifies an old comment that resurfaced
While in conversation on ‘The Bossticks’, Heming opened up about her husband’s health and talked about how the ‘Die Hard’ actor has been doing. Willis has been moved to a separate home with round-the-clock care and an on-site medical team. She shared that Willis has a type of dementia different from the conventional definition people believe. She added, “The one that Bruce has affects language, but there’s another variant that will affect behaviour and another one that could affect movement.”As for clarifying what she meant when she said that Willis’ brain is failing him last year, Heming mentioned that “That’s a different part of the brain. So when people say, ‘Oh, you know, does he remember who you are?’ Well, he does because he doesn’t have Alzheimer’s; he has FTD.”Citing some official statistics in the interview, Heming also added that it is “a very common misconception that, when you think of dementia, we think of memory loss. It’s different from Alzheimer’s. And Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, but FTD is the most common form of dementia for people under the age of 60.”For context, veteran actor Bruce Willis retired in 2022. At first, his family announced that he was stepping away from films because of being diagnosed with aphasia. Later, in February 2023, they announced that the actor’s condition had deteriorated. This resulted in him developing a type of dementia that specifically affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain.
What was Emma Heming’s comment about Bruce Willis from last year?
In August last year, Heming was invited on ‘Good Morning America’ in order to talk about Bruce Willis and his overall health. While talking about the matter, she had shared that “Bruce is still very mobile. Bruce is in really great health overall, you know. It’s just his brain that is failing him.” She had added at the time that “The language is going, and, you know, we’ve learned to adapt.”Heming has since released a book about her experiences titled ‘Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path’. Additionally, Willis’ family regularly shares updates about the actor’s health and even uploads rare photos and videos of him from time to time.
