Canara Bank eyes $2.5 billion in foreign currency deposits

BENGALURU: Canara Bank plans to raise $2.3-2.5 billion through foreign-currency deposits under RBI’s FCNR(B) deposit swap window, its MD and CEO Brajesh Kumar Singh told TOI.The bank has already mobilised around Rs 7,300 crore through the scheme in July. Canara Bank’s loan book grew nearly 18% in the June quarter, outpacing the 11.6% increase in deposits.The bank reported a 62% rise in net profit to Rs 5,181 crore for the June quarter.Total income declined about 4% to Rs 39,696 crore.The bank’s share of current and savings account (CASA) deposits stood at less than 30%.
