INDORE: A 23-year-old woman from Bihar, married off to a suitor almost double her age in an alleged Rs 2.6-lakh trafficking deal, died attempting a midnight escape from her husband’s home in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam within five days of the July 26 wedding. She had tied a rope to an iron pole on the second floor and was climbing down when it snapped, sending her plunging nearly 25 feet to the ground, police said.Sandhya Choudhary, a resident of Karwandiya village in Bihar’s Rohtas district, was pushed into marriage with 45-year-old welder Mukesh Chouhan. Investigators quoted Mukesh as saying that he woke up around 2am on July 31 to find his bride missing.Assuming she was in the washroom, he waited for some time before starting to look for her. Neighbours found Sandhya lying unconscious on a pile of sand behind the house in Ratlam’s Karamdi Road neighbourhood. She was taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Police found the worn rope, purchased for construction purposes two years ago, that the deceased had used to clamber down 10 feet before it snapped.Mukesh confessed to police that he had paid a “broker” in Ujjain district’s Badnagar to find him a bride.
