Award winning Tamil filmmaker and cinematographer R Chezhiyan passed away at the age of 57 on Friday. His death left a deep shock in the Tamil film industry where multiple stars and fans expressed their grief upon learning the news. Actor Vijay Sethupathi mourned the loss of Chezhiyan.

Vijay Sethupathi took to his X handle to share a picture of R Chezhiyan and wrote a short but heartfelt message. He wrote, “Rest in peace, Chezhiyan sir. (broken heart emoji).”Along with him, Filmmaker Sasikumar also remembered Chezhiyan with an emotional message. He wrote, “A good cinematographer does not merely create scenes; they breathe life into emotions as well. Our deepest tribute to Chezhiyan Sar, who safeguarded that art throughout his lifetime #RIPChezhiyan.”

Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar also shared her memories of working with him and expressed her sorrow. She wrote, “It’s very sad to be hearing the news these days … @Rchezhi He was the nicest human being and such an amazing cinematographer.. I have such fond memories of us working in #tharathappatai and #kondralpavaam he was always there supporting me and always cheering me on.. you will be missed sir.. very dearly by me.!!”

Writer and filmmaker Adham Bava also expressed his shock on social media. In his long post in Tamil, Bava’s post loosely translated to English reads, “I am deeply shocked and saddened by the news of the passing of my dear friend, cinematographer, and director Mr. Chezhiyan. His noble nature, always wearing a smile and interacting with everyone with simplicity and affection, along with his rare artistic contributions to the Tamil film industry, will forever remain in our memories.”R Chezhiyan was widely respected for his work as a cinematographer and filmmaker. He also earned praise for encouraging young filmmakers through his workshops and writings.According to reports, Chezhiyan had been undergoing treatment for cancer at a private hospital in Taramani, Chennai. He passed away after battling the illness for a long time.
