BENGALURU: A 20-year-old mother allegedly killed herself at her parents’ house in Rayasandra, south Bengaluru.Her family alleged that she took the extreme step after learning of her husband’s alleged extramarital relationship through an audio clip.She reportedly made a video call to him before taking the extreme step.The deceased has been identified as Sanika Gowda, who was staying at her parents’ house after childbirth.Based on the primary investigation, police said she hanged herself in the bedroom between 1.30am and 2am Sunday.The incident came to light when her father, who runs a shop in Madiwala market, woke up around 3am and found her hanging.Her seven-month-old baby boy was sleeping on the bed.Sanika was married to Nagaraj alias Sharan Gowda, a native of Chikkamagaluru, for nearly one-and-a-half years.Nagaraj works as a cab driver, while she was a homemaker.Police said Sanika learnt about Nagaraj’s extramarital affair a few months ago, and she confronted him and warned him not to meet the woman again.But Nagaraj had shared an audio clip with Sanika in which he was heard speaking with the other woman, purportedly revealing his extramarital relationship.Distressed, Sanika became depressed, and both families had discussions to solve the issue.But the dispute continued, which led her to take the extreme stepBefore ending her life, she reportedly made a video call to her husband and informed him that she was ending her life.Based on the complaint filed by Sanika’s father, police has registered a case of dowry death.A senior officer said there was no death note found in the house.If you are having suicidal thoughts or need emotional support, call the suicide prevention helplines: Tele-MANAS: 14416 or 1800-891-4416; SAHAI: 080-25497777.
